FeatherFlow is making $15k in monthly revenue building MVPs

Meet Janu Lingeswaran.

Janu is 28 years old and from Aachen, Germany. Currently he is hyper focused on building FeatherFlow.

The story told by Janu

It all began in 2007, when I was 11 years old. My love of coding started at an early age.

I later studied computer science to pursue it. It took me almost a decade to graduate because I've got severe ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). It was an incredible challenge and really impacted me as a person and how I want to live my life. But that's a story for another time.

Over the years, I’ve worn many hats. I've been a data engineer, a software developer, and an implementation consultant in digital analytics.

Now I am a product manager for a B2B SaaS company in digital analytics. Alongside my studies and my jobs, I have always worked freelance to improve my skills and build up a network.

The turning point came in September 2023, when I had the idea for FeatherFlow. The concept was simple yet powerful: help startups and non-technical founders get their MVPs (Minimum Viable Product) built in just 20 days for a fixed fee. We've aimed to not only deliver the MVPs but also support our clients post-launch.

By January 2024, we were ready to bring this vision to life.

Web page with mainly text on a dark background. The primary text says: "Get Your MVP Built in 20 Days. Find your first customer or pitch for invester. Our team builds your MVP for a fixed fee. And better yet, we will support yo after the launch."

Behind FeatherFlow is a core team of three people (including me) who are managing everything. But right now 99% is done by me. The other two guys aren't that involced anymore like before.

Beside the core team I have one junior developer, a designer and a web developer who also acts as a project manager and depending on the project, developers with specialist knowledge required for the project (currently, for example, app developers with knowledge of Bluetooth beacons). All freelancers.

Launching FeatherFlow was both exciting and challenging. Initially, we started with a modest revenue of $2-3k monthly. Through dedication and strategic growth (experimenting with different lead generation methods until something works out), we scaled to $15k in monthly revenue by May 2024.

Although most of our revenue isn't yet recurring, that is exactly our goal. We’re currently close to securing two significant monthly contracts worth MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue) $8k-12k each.

Our marketing journey has been quite the learning curve. We’ve experimented with outbound marketing on X (formerly Twitter), leveraging AI to send customized cold DMs.

To make this happen I used a tool named Drippi AI. I took Alex Hormozi’s followers with a follower amount within a specific range (not too small, not too big) and certain keywords in the bio. All signs that they were already entrepreneurially active. Then I let the AI scan the bio of the person + copy of the websites they had in their bio and let the AI find out stuff they were probably proud of and let the AI phrase a compliment. Not my proudest move 🙂

Despite generating numerous leads, the quality was horrible, resulting in no sales. Consequently, we shifted our focus to inbound marketing.

Surprisingly, 70% of our clients found us through my X account. I share content about tech entrepreneurship there. This positions me and FeatherFlow as experts in the fast and lean development of software products and creates trust with potential customers.

Another 20% were referrals from former freelance clients, and 10% came through recommendations.

Another pivotal factor was to iteratively optimize our landing page again and again which ramped up our conversion rate. My X followers helped a lot with this. Here's a tweet about the process:

Running FeatherFlow and having a 9-to-5 job as a product manager at the same time is tough. The dual role is demanding, but incredibly rewarding. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities for growth, both personally and professionally.

I hope my story inspires other builders and entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams, no matter how difficult the path may seem.
